Travel Guide to Totopara Mining

Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from the town of Phuentsholing, head northeast on the Bhutan-India border road (NH 27). Continue for about 30 km until you reach the town of Samtse. Once in Samtse, follow the signs for Totopara, which is located across the border in India. You'll need to pass through the border checkpoint at Phuentsholing, where you may need to show your travel documents. After crossing into India, continue on the Totopara Road for approximately 15 km until you reach Totopara Mining. Please note that this route involves crossing an international border, so keep your passport and any necessary visas ready.

• Public Transportation

  From Thimphu, take a bus or shared taxi to Phuentsholing, which is the nearest major town. The journey takes about 6-8 hours. Once you arrive in Phuentsholing, you can catch a local bus or a shared taxi to Samtse. After reaching Samtse, you will need to hire an auto-rickshaw or a taxi to take you to the border crossing at Totopara. Once across the border, continue on Totopara Road to reach your destination. Be prepared for potential border crossing delays and ensure you have your passport and any necessary visas.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Phuentsholing that will take you directly to Totopara Mining. The journey will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on road conditions and border crossing time. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand, as this option may be more expensive than public transport but offers convenience and comfort.
