Car
If you're driving, start from the city of Puno, Peru, which is the closest major city to Río Ilave. Head east on the PE-3S highway towards Juliaca. After approximately 45 kilometers (about 30 minutes), take the exit towards the PE-30A road. Continue on PE-30A for about 30 kilometers until you reach the town of Ilave. From Ilave, follow local roads leading to Río Ilave. Be cautious of road conditions, especially during rainy seasons.
Public Transportation (Bus)
From Puno, take a bus to Juliaca, which costs around 10-15 soles and takes about 30-40 minutes. Once in Juliaca, transfer to a bus heading towards Ilave. The bus ride from Juliaca to Ilave costs approximately 5-10 soles and takes about 30 minutes. After arriving in Ilave, you can either walk to the river or take a local taxi for a short ride.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct option, you can hire a taxi from Puno to Río Ilave. The cost for a taxi for the approximately 80-kilometer journey can range from 150 to 250 soles depending on negotiation. This option provides comfort and convenience but is pricier than public transportation.
