Car
Start your journey in the city of La Paz. Head southwest on Avenida 6 de Agosto towards Avenida Arce. Continue on the main road until you reach the La Paz - El Alto highway. Follow the signs for 'Caranavi', which will lead you into the Andean Valleys region. After approximately 2 hours, you will reach the town of Caranavi. From Caranavi, take the road to 'Qalsata', which is well-marked. The drive from Caranavi to Qalsata is about 30 minutes, but be prepared for winding roads. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition as some parts of the road may be rough. There are no tolls on this route.
Public Transportation (Bus)
From La Paz, locate the main bus terminal known as Terminal de Buses. Purchase a ticket for a bus heading to Caranavi. The journey takes approximately 4-5 hours and costs around 30-50 Bolivianos. Once you arrive in Caranavi, you will need to find a local taxi or a shared taxi (trufi) to take you to Qalsata. The shared taxi ride will take about 30 minutes and typically costs around 10-15 Bolivianos per person. Ensure you confirm the price before starting your trip.

If you are up for an adventure, consider hiking from Caranavi to Qalsata. This option is for experienced hikers and takes about 3-4 hours. You will need to arrange for local guides in Caranavi who are familiar with the trails. Costs for a guide can vary but expect to pay around 100-150 Bolivianos for a half-day hike. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks, as there are limited resources along the way.
