Discover more about Makgadikgadi adventure camp

Makgadikgadi Adventure Camp is strategically located near Thabatshukudu, making it a practical stopover for those venturing into the Makgadikgadi Pans, especially Kubu Island. Positioned on the northern side of the veterinary cordon fence, the camp is accessible via roads frequently used by 4x4 vehicles heading to Nxai Pan, Chobe National Park, and the Okavango Delta. The camp provides a range of options, including traditional Tswana huts and self-camping sites. The self-catering facilities include an ablution block with flushing toilets and solar-heated showers. A communal braai area (Kgotla) is available, along with a bar that serves snacks and drinks. While the camp offers a swimming pool, it's currently unavailable. Travelers should also be aware that the camp is in a remote area, so supplies at the bar may be limited. The Makgadikgadi Pans themselves are remnants of a super-lake that dried up millions of years ago, leaving vast salt flats. During the rainy season (October to March), the pans can transform into a productive area attracting algae and plankton. Kubu Island, a rocky outcrop within the pans, is a must-see destination, known for its granite boulders, ancient baobab trees, and stargazing opportunities.
