Lotsane Dam: A Tranquil Oasis in Botswana

Lotsane Dam, located near Maunatlala village in Botswana, is a multifaceted destination serving both practical and recreational purposes. Completed in 2012, the dam was built on the Lotsane River to provide a reliable source of drinking water to 22 villages in the Tswapong area and to support a local horticultural project. The dam itself is an earth-fill embankment, stretching 1.5 kilometers in length and standing 30 meters high. The reservoir has a capacity of 40 million cubic meters. Visitors can enjoy activities such as fishing for tilapia, catfish and bream, boating on the dam's tranquil waters, and bird watching. The area is home to diverse bird species, including African fish eagles, kingfishers and herons. Lotsane Dam offers picnic areas and braai (barbecue) facilities, making it ideal for family outings.
