Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Road
To reach Mashatu Game Reserve by road from Johannesburg, South Africa, allow approximately 6.5 hours of driving time. The route leads to the Pont Drift border post, where you'll cross the Limpopo River into Botswana. If the river is not in flood, you can drive across; otherwise, a cable car provides transport. After clearing customs and immigration, a Mashatu guide will meet you and drive you to your accommodation within the reserve. Keep in mind that the Pont Drift border post typically operates from 8 AM to 4 PM. Cable car fees are included in the transfer costs.
Air
For a quicker arrival, consider flying directly to Limpopo Valley Airfield (LVA), Mashatu's private airport. Mashatu Connect offers scheduled charter flights from Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg. Upon arrival at LVA, a Mashatu guide will transfer you to your chosen camp within the reserve. Flight times are approximately one hour from Johannesburg. Contact Mashatu Connect for current flight schedules and pricing.
