Discover more about Santuário São João Bosco

Located in the heart of Brasília, the Santuário São João Bosco is a remarkable spiritual and architectural landmark. Often referred to as Santuário Dom Bosco, this sanctuary is not only a place of worship but also a testament to the visionary dreams of Saint John Bosco, an Italian saint whose prophetic vision played a significant role in the foundation of Brasília. Designed by the architect Carlos Alberto Naves, the sanctuary seamlessly blends modernist architectural principles with spiritual symbolism. The exterior features 80 concrete columns, each 16 meters high, creating a striking facade. However, the true magic lies within. Inside, 7,400 pieces of Murano glass in 12 shades of blue create a mesmerizing play of light and color. The blue hues evoke the sky and the divine, while the white symbolizes purity and peace. The light filtering through the stained glass transforms the interior into a celestial space, offering a unique experience at every hour of the day, especially at sunset. A massive chandelier, crafted from 7,400 pieces of Murano glass and weighing 3,000 kg, hangs in the center, adding to the sanctuary's splendor. Beyond the stained glass and chandelier, the sanctuary features artistic elements, including bronze sculptures depicting scenes from the life of Dom Bosco. In 2017, a crypt was added to house a relic of Dom Bosco—a piece of bone from his right arm—providing a tranquil space for reflection and prayer.
