Discover more about Planetário de Brasília

The Planetário de Brasília Luiz Cruls, commonly known as the Planetário de Brasília, is a planetarium located on the Monumental Axis in Brasília, Brazil. Inaugurated on March 15, 1974, the planetarium was designed by architect Sérgio Bernandes in a Brutalist style, resembling a flying saucer. After being closed for renovations due to structural issues from 2006 to 2013, the Planetário de Brasília reopened with a new projector, the Power Dome VIII. Visitors can explore exhibits about the solar system and the Brazilian Space Agency. The planetarium also features a model of a suborbital rocket and a compass rose. The Planetário de Brasília is dedicated to providing educational and immersive experiences about astronomy and space science for visitors of all ages. The planetarium offers scientific programs, exhibitions, and events that help popularize astronomy. Inside, visitors can enjoy shows in the dome that detail the history of astronomy and the characteristics of constellations and planets. The building itself was designed to unite the sky and the sea, originally including 16 aquariums on the upper floor, though this plan was abandoned due to structural problems.
