    National Park Catimbau, also known as Vale do Catimbau (Catimbau Valley), is a protected area in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. Established in 2002, the park spans over 62,300 hectares (154,000 acres) and is renowned as Brazil's second-largest archaeological site. The park is characterized by a semi-arid landscape, featuring canyons, caves, and pre-historic cave paintings, some dating back 6,000 years. The park's geological formations have been sculpted by wind and rain over millennia, creating unique shapes and a diverse range of colors in the sandstone walls. This area is a transition zone between the agreste and sertão vegetation zones, resulting in a mosaic of landscapes with high biodiversity. Over 600 plant species, including various cacti, have been identified, and over 190 bird species have been recorded. Catimbau National Park is also rich in cultural history, with over 2,000 caves and 28 registered sites containing pre-historical cave paintings.
