Devil's Throat
Devil's Throat: The Heart of Iguazu Falls
Experience the awe-inspiring power of nature at Devil's Throat, the largest and most spectacular waterfall in Iguazu Falls.
Devil's Throat (Garganta del Diablo) is the largest and most impressive of the 275 waterfalls that make up Iguazu Falls, straddling the border between Argentina and Brazil. This awe-inspiring U-shaped cataract funnels half of the Iguazu River's flow into a narrow chasm, creating a powerful and unforgettable spectacle.
Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Ecological Train
From the Iguazu National Park entrance on the Argentinian side, proceed to the Central Train Station. Board the Ecological Train of the Jungle, which is included in your park entrance fee. Take the train to the Garganta del Diablo Station. From there, follow the well-marked, accessible metal walkway (2,200 meters round trip) over the Upper Iguazu River to the Devil's Throat viewing platform. The train runs every 30 minutes. Allow approximately 2 hours for the round trip.
Walking
From the Iguazu National Park entrance on the Argentinian side, it is possible to walk to the Devil's Throat. Follow signs for the 'Sendero Verde' (Green Trail) to the 'Estacion de las Cataratas'. From there, connect to the 'Paseo Superior' or 'Paseo Inferior' trails, which will eventually lead you to the Ecological Train tracks. Follow the train tracks to the Garganta del Diablo Station and then the metal walkway to the falls. This is a significantly longer route than taking the train and is not recommended for those with limited time or mobility. Note that the walking path alongside the train tracks is a dirt road.
