Discover more about Praça dos Cristais

Praça dos Cristais, also known as Praça Cívica, is located in Brasília's Setor Militar Urbano. Inaugurated in 1970, this 102,000 square meter plaza was designed by landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx and his assistant Haruyoshi Ono, drawing inspiration from the rock crystals of Cristalina, Goiás. The park's design incorporates concrete sculptures resembling crystals, a large reflecting pool, and gardens originally featuring 53 plant species native to the Cerrado biome. The plaza serves as a cultural hub, hosting events and exhibitions. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls, admire the unique architecture, and appreciate the blend of nature and urban development. The reflecting pool and illuminated crystals create a mesmerizing ambiance, especially in the evening. While offering benches for visitors, these were not part of the original design. Praça dos Cristais provides a tranquil retreat from the bustling city, embodying Brasília's modernist ethos and status as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
