Discover more about Vale da Lua

Vale da Lua, or Moon Valley, is a captivating natural attraction located near Alto Paraíso de Goiás, in the heart of Brazil. This extraordinary landscape owes its existence to the relentless work of the São Miguel River, which, over eons, has carved intricate grooves and pools into the region's ancient rocks. The result is a surreal, moon-like panorama that attracts visitors seeking tranquility and unique photo opportunities. The valley's geological formations are approximately 1.8 billion years old, making them some of the oldest on Earth. The dark grey stones, once lava flows, contrast with the surrounding green savanna vegetation, creating a striking visual effect. The river's waters, rich in quartz, create rainbow reflections in the sunlight, adding to the valley's mystical atmosphere. Visitors can explore the valley via well-maintained trails, discovering hidden swimming spots and small cascades. The natural pools offer a refreshing respite from the heat, while the smooth rocks provide ideal sunbathing spots. Though not part of the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, Vale da Lua offers equally impressive scenery and a chance to connect with nature. Be mindful that the valley is subject to flash floods during the rainy season.
