Construction began in 1938 and took forty years to complete, finally opening in 1978. Designed by French architect George Maunier, the cathedral showcases an eclectic style with predominantly Neo-Gothic and Romanesque elements, drawing inspiration from the Cologne Cathedral and Chartres Cathedral. Its towers soar to 75 meters, and the interior can accommodate up to 5,000 people.
