Serrote de Jericoacoara, also known as Morro do Serrote, is a distinctive landmark in the Jericoacoara National Park, rising approximately 98 meters above sea level. Unlike the surrounding flat, dune-covered landscape, Serrote Hill features greener vegetation and rocky formations. This unique environment provides a habitat for diverse flora and fauna, including cacti and various bird species.The hill offers a relatively easy and rewarding hike, attracting tourists seeking panoramic views. On clear nights, the moonrise is equally spectacular.Historically, Serrote de Jericoacoara served as a strategic point. In the early 17th century, the Portuguese built a small wooden fort at the foot of the hill, named Forte de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, to defend against the French and pirates. The rocks from Serrote were also used to construct the local church. Today, Serrote protects the village of Jericoacoara from the winds and sands of the dunes.
