Originally envisioned as a grand tourist and events complex, the Monte Serrat Casino operated from 1934 to 1946, hosting glamorous events and performances by famous artists. After gambling was banned in Brazil, the complex was preserved and now operates as a tourist attraction. The summit offers leisurely strolls through areas rich in history and culture. A charming coffee shop allows visitors to unwind and savor local delicacies while soaking in the scenery. The area is a lively hub for events and gatherings. The Funicular Railway, a German project, is an attraction in itself. It operates with two carriages in synchronized movement, with two lanes in the center. Each vehicle can hold up to 45 passengers for the 4-minute route of 147 meters. A steel cable supports the carriages. Alternatively, visitors can climb 402 steps with 14 niches reproducing scenes from the Via Dolorosa to reach the top. At the summit, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Monte Serrat, the Patron Saint of the city, built in 1604, awaits visitors.
