Getting There

    If driving to Caiman Pantanal, start from Miranda. Head east on BR-262 for approximately 20 km. Look for signs indicating Estância Caiman, which will lead you to a dirt road. Follow the dirt road for about 5 km until you reach the entrance of Caiman. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended due to the bumpy road conditions. There are no tolls. Parking is available at the lodge.

    To reach Caiman Pantanal via public transport, take a bus from Campo Grande to Miranda. The bus journey takes approximately 2-3 hours. From Miranda, arrange a taxi or local transport to Caiman, roughly 20 km away. Pre-arranging a taxi is advisable due to limited local transport options. Confirm the taxi can navigate dirt roads. Bus fare from Campo Grande to Miranda is approximately R$40-R$60. Taxi from Miranda to Caiman is approximately R$100-R$150.

Founded in 1985, Caiman was the first ecotourism operation in the Mato Grosso do Sul State. Visitors can choose from three distinct lodges: Casa Caiman, the main lodge with 18 suites, and the private villas Baiazinha and Cordilheira. Each offers comfortable accommodations and a chance to connect with the surrounding environment. Days at Caiman begin early to maximize wildlife observation during safaris, canoe trips, and nature walks led by experienced guides. These activities provide opportunities to spot jaguars, giant anteaters, caimans, capybaras, and diverse bird species. Caiman is deeply committed to conservation, supporting projects like Onçafari (Jaguar Safari) and the Hyacinth Macaw Project. Guests can learn about these initiatives and contribute to the preservation of the Pantanal's unique ecosystem. The property also includes a Private Reserve of Natural Patrimony (RPPN), legally protected in perpetuity, serving as a research site for scientists. Caiman strives to demonstrate the viability of allying conservation and progress with respect to nature by adapting its initiatives to the Pantanal and its unique cycle of nature while respecting the cultures and traditions of its inhabitants and promoting new ideas to develop and bring progress to the region. The Pantanal has roughly 4 seasons. The dry season, which runs from June to October, is generally considered the best time to visit the Pantanal, as the weather is dry and the wildlife congregates around the remaining water sources.
