Train

The most traditional and scenic way to reach Christ the Redeemer is by taking the Corcovado Train. First, make your way to the Cosme Velho train station. From Copacabana, you can take bus line 583 or a taxi/Uber to the station. A taxi from Copacabana to Cosme Velho costs approximately R$35-R$45. At Cosme Velho, board the train, which departs every 30 minutes for a 20-minute ride through the Tijuca National Park. The train ticket includes a round trip and entrance to the monument. Tickets cost between R$32 and R$94. It is highly recommended to purchase tickets in advance online to avoid queues.

Official vans depart from Largo do Machado and Copacabana. In Copacabana, the boarding point is at Praça do Lido. From Largo do Machado, the boarding point is in front of the Mother Church of Nossa Senhora da Glória, near the Largo do Machado metro station. A van from Copacabana costs around R$101.50. The vans run frequently, approximately every 30 minutes, from 8 AM to 5 PM. The ticket includes the round trip and entrance to the monument. The vans take you to Estrada das Paineiras, where you'll board a second van for the final ascent.

Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) is an iconic statue of Jesus Christ that stands atop Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Completed in 1931, it has become a celebrated emblem of both the city and the entire nation.The statue's history dates back to the 19th century when the idea of placing a Christian monument on Corcovado Mountain was first suggested. However, the project didn't materialize until after World War I, when concerns about a decline in religious faith prompted the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro to propose the construction of the statue. The intent was to reclaim the country for Christ, countering what was seen as increasing godlessness.The statue was designed by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa and sculpted by French sculptor Paul Landowski. The face of the statue was created by Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida. The monument stands 30 meters (98 feet) tall, with an 8-meter (26-foot) pedestal, bringing its total height to 38 meters (125 feet). The arms stretch 28 meters (92 feet) wide. The statue is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, chosen for its resistance to extreme weather conditions and malleability.Christ the Redeemer has undergone several renovations and repairs since its inauguration.
