The Palácio do Planalto, meaning 'Palace of the Plateau,' is the official workplace of the President of Brazil, located in Brasília. The building, designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, is situated on the Praça dos Três Poderes (Three Powers Plaza), symbolizing the heart of the Brazilian government. Construction began on July 10, 1958, and the palace was inaugurated on April 21, 1960, marking the transfer of the federal capital to the country's interior.The Palácio do Planalto showcases the simplicity of lines with a dominance of the horizontal. The columns, a signature element of Niemeyer's design, give the building a remarkable lightness. The surrounding gardens were designed by landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx. Inside, the palace features a collection of paintings, sculptures, and tapestries by Brazilian and foreign artists.Visitors can explore the Noble, East, and West Rooms, the Supreme Meeting Room, the Guest Room, and the Presidential Office. The building also houses a collection of art pieces. Public tours are available on Sundays.
