Instituto Ricardo Brennand: A Medieval Castle in Northeast Brazil

The Instituto Ricardo Brennand is a cultural institution in Recife, Brazil, established in 2002 by collector and businessman Ricardo Brennand. The institute comprises a museum, art gallery, library, and a large park, offering visitors a multifaceted cultural experience. The institute's collection spans from the Early Middle Ages to the 20th century, with a focus on Dutch Brazil and the colonial period. A highlight is the world's largest assemblage of paintings by Frans Post, the first landscapist of the New World. The armory boasts over 3,000 pieces, primarily European and Asian melee weapons from the 14th to 19th centuries. The library contains over 62,000 volumes, including rare Brasiliana.
