Museu do Homem do Nordeste: A Dive into Northeastern Brazilian Culture

The Museu do Homem do Nordeste (MUHNE), a federal museum linked to the Joaquim Nabuco Foundation, is dedicated to researching, documenting, preserving, and promoting the cultural heritage of Northeastern Brazil. Founded in 1979 by the renowned sociologist Gilberto Freyre, the museum emerged from the merging of three existing museums: the Museum of Anthropology, the Museum of Popular Art, and the Museum of Sugar. The museum's collection comprises approximately 16,000 pieces, reflecting the historical, ethnic, and social formation of the region. Visitors can explore cultural legacies from Indigenous peoples, European colonizers, and enslaved Africans, gaining insights into the diverse influences that shaped Northeastern Brazil.
