The Museu do Homem do Nordeste (MUHNE), a federal museum linked to the Joaquim Nabuco Foundation, is dedicated to researching, documenting, preserving, and promoting the cultural heritage of Northeastern Brazil. Founded in 1979 by the renowned sociologist Gilberto Freyre, the museum emerged from the merging of three existing museums: the Museum of Anthropology, the Museum of Popular Art, and the Museum of Sugar.
