Located on Brazil's Discovery Coast, the Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural (RPPN) Rio do Brasil protects a significant portion of the Atlantic Forest. This 975-hectare reserve works to preserve and recuperate the native forest and water sources while promoting environmental education and social inclusion in the region. The RPPN is home to an array of wildlife, with 465 cataloged species, including 86 species exclusive to the Atlantic Forest and 17 threatened species. Visitors may spot monkeys, white-faced monkeys, harpy eagles, tapirs and sloths. The flora includes century-old gameleiras alongside jacarandas, jatobás and juçara palms. The reserve also preserves the mata paludosa, a forest with high plant density and numerous palms, ferns, lianas and guanandis. The name 'Rio do Brasil' comes from the original name of the Rio da Barra, the first river cataloged by the Portuguese in Brazil, which is surrounded by Pau Brasil trees. Visitors can explore the river by kayak, immersing themselves in the forest. Other activities include forest bathing on trails, birdwatching with expert guides, and children's educational tours. The reserve is part of the 'Futuri – Aliança pelo Turismo Regenerativo', promoting sustainable tourism that respects nature, culture, and the local economy.
