The Parque Olímpico, situated in Barra da Tijuca, stands as a testament to Rio de Janeiro's hosting of the 2016 Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games. Originally constructed for the 2007 Pan American Games and expanded for the 2016 Olympics, the park occupies a 118-hectare area that was formerly the Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet. Following the Games, the Parque Olímpico transitioned into a public space, opening in January 2017 with leisure areas and gardens. The 'Via Olímpica', inspired by the calçadão of Copacabana, connects the arenas and integrates viewpoints and terraces. Although some venues are no longer in use, the park continues to host significant events such as the Rock in Rio music festival. The park features several permanent structures, including the three Carioca Arenas, the Olympic Tennis Centre, the Velodrome, the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre, and the Jeunesse Arena. The east side of the park is planned to become the Olympic Training Center.
