Public Transport
To reach Rocinha via public transport, take the Metro Line 4 to São Conrado station. From there, you can catch a bus (538, 539, or VAN 2101) or a 'kombi' van up to Rocinha. The bus fare is around R$4.70. Alternatively, you can walk from the São Conrado metro station, which takes approximately 20 minutes. Keep in mind that the walk is uphill.
Taxi/Ride-Share
Taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber are readily available in Rio de Janeiro. A taxi ride from Copacabana or Ipanema to Rocinha will cost approximately R$30-R$50, depending on traffic. Be sure to confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey. Keep in mind that traffic can be heavy during peak hours.
