Discover more about RPPN Cachoeira do Cerradão

RPPN Cachoeira do Cerradão, established in August 2001, is a privately-owned natural reserve recognized by IBAMA, Brazil's environmental agency. This 91-hectare sanctuary (with 60 hectares designated as RPPN) safeguards the Cachoeira do Cerradão, one of the highest waterfalls in the Serra da Canastra. The main waterfall boasts a height of 118 meters, equivalent to a 40-story building. In total, there are four waterfalls in the reserve: Cachoeira do Cerradão (118m), Cachoeira do Meio (24m), Cachoeira da Pedra (6m), and Cachoeira da Ducha (3m). The reserve is located in São Roque de Minas, and it is the first of its kind in the region to open its doors to ecotourism, offering hiking and environmental education activities. The trails are well-maintained and marked with interpretive signs that identify the local flora. The area encompasses springs, cerrado vegetation, fields, and well-preserved riparian forests. Visitors can enjoy various activities such as hiking, birdwatching, and swimming in the waterfall's natural pools. The reserve provides essential facilities, including a reception area and restrooms. Keep in mind that there is no restaurant on site, but cheese and guava ice cream is available.
