Botanical Garden of Porto Alegre: A Green Sanctuary

The Botanical Garden of Porto Alegre, located on Rua Dr. Salvador França, is a living museum of flora, offering a serene escape within the city. The garden's history dates back to the early 19th century, though it officially opened in 1958, displaying nearly 600 plant species. Today, the garden integrates with the Fundação Zoobotânica Foundation, alongside the Park Zoo and the Museum of Natural Sciences. The Museum of Natural Sciences features exhibits of fossils found in the geopark of Paleorrota. The Botanical Garden has a diverse collection of trees, with emphasis on families of ecological importance, thematic groups and forest formations typical of the state. Throughout the years, the Botanical Garden has undergone improvements, including the construction of nurseries for bromeliads, orchids, succulents, vines, and cacti, as well as renovations to the visitor center and administration. Visitors can explore themed gardens, relax in peaceful surroundings, and learn about the importance of environmental conservation.
