Forte Duque de Caxias, also known as Forte do Leme, is a historic fort located on Morro do Leme, at the eastern end of Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. Built in the late 18th century, it offers stunning panoramic views of the coastline, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Copacabana Beach. Visitors can explore the fort's grounds, enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding Atlantic Forest, and even encounter playful monkeys along the way.

Walking
From the eastern end of Copacabana Beach in Leme, follow the beach promenade towards Praça Alm. Júlio de Noronha. The entrance to the trail leading up to Forte Duque de Caxias is located at the bottom of Morro do Leme, within a military area. The hike up the cobblestone path takes approximately 20 minutes. There is a nominal fee to access the trail and fort.

Public Transport
From Cardeal Arcoverde Metro Station (Line 1), exit and walk towards Avenida Atlântica. Head east along the beach promenade until you reach Praça Alm. Júlio de Noronha. The entrance to Duque de Caxias Fort will be visible from the promenade. Alternatively, take bus #190, 472 or 523 to Leme at the end of the beach. Get off at the stop 'Praça Alm. Júlio de Noronha'. The entrance to Duque de Caxias Fort is a short walk from the bus stop. Bus fare is approximately R$4.05.
