Discover more about Gorda Peak National Park

Gorda Peak National Park, encompassing 260 acres, is a natural sanctuary and the highest point on Virgin Gorda, rising to 1,370 feet. Donated by Laurance Rockefeller in 1974, the park safeguards one of the last remaining examples of Caribbean dry forest, making it a conservation priority. The park features diverse vegetation zones, from dry scrub forests to moister forests at higher elevations. Hikers can explore two well-marked trails leading to the summit. The longer trail offers a more gradual ascent, while the shorter trail is steeper. Though a lookout tower was destroyed by Hurricane Irma, a nearby boulder provides stunning views of the British Virgin Islands. Gorda Peak is home to unique wildlife, including the endemic Virgin Gorda gecko, one of the world's smallest lizards. The park also hosts regionally restricted and endangered plant species. Hiking, scientific research, picnicking, and panoramic views are popular activities.
