Discover more about Willy T

Willy T, short for William Thornton, is more than just a floating bar and restaurant; it's a legendary institution in the British Virgin Islands. Named after William Thornton, a renowned 18th-century architect who designed the United States Capitol, the original Willy T was a converted Baltic Trader. In the 1980s, it was transformed into a floating bar and restaurant, quickly gaining notoriety for its wild parties and free-spirited vibe. For decades, the Willy T was famous for the tradition of patrons jumping off the upper deck into the crystal-clear waters below. In 2017, Hurricane Irma severely damaged the original vessel, which was later sunk to become an artificial reef off Peter Island, providing a habitat for marine life. Not to be deterred, the owners commissioned a new, larger steel ship to continue the legacy. Anchored off Norman Island, the current Willy T is bigger and bolder, maintaining the party atmosphere that made it famous.Today, Willy T remains a symbol of the carefree, adventurous spirit of the British Virgin Islands. Visitors can enjoy refreshing cocktails, local beers, and delicious food while soaking in the sun and stunning views of the surrounding islands. The bar is known for its strong rum drinks, including the infamous Painkiller. Whether you're diving to explore the sunken remains of the original ship or partying on the new vessel, the Willy T promises an unforgettable experience in the beautiful waters of the Caribbean.
