Discover more about Willy T

Willy T, short for William Thornton, is more than just a floating bar and restaurant; it's a legendary institution in the British Virgin Islands. Anchored in The Bight off Norman Island, Willy T has been drawing sailors and adventurers for decades with its rum-soaked revelry and unforgettable vibes. The original Willy T was a converted Baltic Trader, a wooden vessel built in 1935 and named after William Thornton, the architect who designed the United States Capitol. In the 1980s, it was transformed into a floating bar, quickly gaining a reputation for wild parties and a free-spirited atmosphere. Patrons would often jump off the upper deck into the crystal-clear waters below, a tradition that continues today. In 2017, Hurricane Irma severely damaged the original Willy T. The owners decided to sink the ship off Peter Island, creating an artificial reef and a unique dive site. A new, larger steel ship was commissioned to carry on the Willy T legacy. The current Willy T offers a similar experience, with food, drinks, music, and the opportunity to jump into the sea. The party atmosphere is renowned, with a more laid-back vibe during the day and a livelier scene as the sun sets.
