Discover more about Virgin Gorda Peak

Gorda Peak National Park protects 265 acres, including Virgin Gorda's highest point at 1,370 feet. Established in 1974, the park is a crucial conservation area, representing one of the last remaining examples of Caribbean dry forests. The hike to the summit offers a moderately challenging experience with two trail options. The longer trail gradually ascends, while the shorter route is steeper. Along the way, hikers can observe diverse vegetation and potentially spot the endemic Virgin Gorda gecko, one of the world's smallest lizards. Though a fire tower once stood at the peak, it collapsed after Hurricane Irma. However, a boulder with a ladder provides an alternative vantage point. While the summit views may be partially obstructed by vegetation, the trails offer glimpses of the surrounding islands. The park also holds historical significance, with ties to the island's folklore and maritime past.
