Although the royal family relocated to Istana Darul Hana in 1951, Istana Darussalam remained a significant place. Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III passed away at the palace in 1986. Today, the palace is under the protection of the Antiquities and Treasure Trove Act and maintained by the Public Works Department.Visitors can admire the palace's exterior, characterized by its green and brown facade that stands out amidst the surrounding neighborhood. The meticulously maintained gardens add to the serene atmosphere, offering a tranquil space to reflect on Brunei's rich heritage. While internal access is limited, the palace provides a visual feast for photography enthusiasts and those interested in Brunei's monarchy.
