Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III passed away at the palace in 1986. Today, the palace is under the protection of the Antiquities and Treasure Trove Act and maintained by the Public Works Department. Visitors can admire the palace's exterior, characterized by its green and brown facade that stands out amidst the surrounding neighborhood.
