Seria Energy Lab: Brunei's Hub for STEM Education

Seria Energy Lab (SEL) is Brunei's premier science center, located in Seria, the heart of the nation's oil and gas industry. Originally established as the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) in 2002, it was rebranded in 2020 to emphasize its role in fostering innovative, next-generation thinkers. SEL aims to make science accessible and engaging, particularly for young people, with a focus on 21st-century skills. The lab features a variety of interactive exhibits designed to intrigue and educate visitors of all ages. Key exhibition zones include Oil and Gas, which explores Brunei's hydrocarbon history and technological advancements; Future Energy, highlighting the importance of energy conservation; Aqualab, showcasing Brunei's marine ecosystem; and Smart Science, offering interactive science exhibits. The Maker Space provides a unique area for hands-on maker activities. Outdoor exhibits include the BSP locomotive, a historic piece of transportation from the oil fields. SEL is not just a museum; it's a dynamic center for learning and innovation. It actively collaborates with local partners, including NGOs, government agencies, Brunei Shell Petroleum, and the Ministry of Education, to conduct workshops, competitions, and activities. The lab also emphasizes sustainable energy and offers programs to promote STEM education among young women.
