Discover more about Cape Emine

Cape Emine is the easternmost point of the Balkan Mountains, offering breathtaking views where the mountain range dramatically plunges into the Black Sea. Located approximately 79 kilometers south of Varna and 54 kilometers north of Burgas, this natural landmark marks a conditional boundary between the northern and southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The cape itself is characterized by vertical cliffs, nearly 60 meters high, with numerous underwater and above-water rocks extending over 250 meters from the shore, making it a treacherous area for ships. A guiding lighthouse stands as a sentinel, directing vessels toward Burgas Bay. Historically significant, Cape Emine was once the site of a medieval fortress called Emona, named after the ancient name of the Balkan Mountains. Today, only ruins remain, along with remnants of a monastery, whispering tales of centuries past. The nearby village of Emona offers a glimpse into traditional Bulgarian life. Cape Emine also marks the end of the European hiking route E-3, known as the Kom-Emine route in Bulgaria. The area north of the cape includes the protected Irakli beach, a favorite spot for nature enthusiasts.
