    Dervisha Nature Preserve, situated in northeastern Bulgaria near the town of Veliki Preslav, is a protected area encompassing 11.21 hectares. The preserve's primary purpose is to conserve the unique natural habitat of horse chestnut trees (Aesculus hippocastanum), a Balkan endemic and a relict species from ancient forests. Some of these trees reach impressive heights of 35 meters.The reserve lies in the Preslavska Mountain area, with elevations ranging from 180 to 600 meters above sea level. The Dervishka River crosses the territory, adding to the area's biodiversity. Besides horse chestnut, the preserve is home to other tree species like walnut, maple, hornbeam, and silver linden, along with diverse grass vegetation.Established as a protected area in 1948, Dervisha aims to preserve this unique ecosystem. The area also holds historical significance, with remains of an old Roman road bordering the reserve. While small, Dervisha Nature Preserve offers a tranquil escape into a unique and historically significant natural environment.
