The Pantheon, officially the Monument of the Strugglers Against Fascism and Capitalism, stands as a solemn reminder of Bulgaria's past. Located within Varna's Sea Garden, the monument commemorates those who lost their lives in the fight against fascism between 1923 and 1944.The monument was established on November 6, 1959, marking the 42nd anniversary of the October Revolution in Russia. Initially, the concept involved a truncated cone structure faced with white stone and crowned with stone laurels. However, this design was replaced by a project led by professors Lyubomir Dalchev and Peter Koutsarov.The entrance features the inscription “eternal glory”. Above the doors, a sculpture by Ivan Kovachev depicts a factory worker holding a lowered banner and a kneeling girl with flowers. The main figures of the monument showcase two warriors, one wounded, yet both continuing the fight. Seven stone reliefs below depict various scenes related to the struggle.In 1995, the remains interred here were exhumed and given to relatives for private burial. Despite this, the Pantheon remains a historical monument, declared as such in 1971. Today, visitors can appreciate the monument's artistry and reflect on the sacrifices made during a tumultuous period in Bulgarian history.
