Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Smolyan. Take the main road (E-80) heading towards the village of Gela. After about 15 km, look for a sign pointing to Golyam Beglik. Turn onto the road leading to the reservoir. Continue for approximately 10 km along the winding road until you reach the Golyam Beglik Reservoir. There is limited parking available near the water's edge, so arrive early to secure a spot.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Golyam Beglik using public transportation, take a bus from Smolyan to the village of Gela. Buses run approximately every hour, and the fare is about 3 BGN (Bulgarian Lev). Once you arrive in Gela, you will need to take a taxi to the Golyam Beglik Reservoir, as public transport does not reach this destination directly. Taxi fares will vary, but expect to pay around 15-20 BGN for the short trip. Ensure to arrange for the taxi to return to pick you up, as there may be limited options for return transport.

• Hiking

  For the adventurous, consider hiking to Golyam Beglik from nearby villages such as Gela or even from Smolyan. The trails are well-marked but can be steep and challenging, so it's recommended for those with a good level of fitness. The hike from Gela to Golyam Beglik is approximately 8 km and takes about 2-3 hours. Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and carry enough water and snacks for the journey.
