Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Samokov, which is a common base for visitors to Rila Mountain. Take the road towards the Rila Monastery (follow signs for Rila Monastery). After approximately 25 kilometers, you will reach the intersection for the Rila Monastery. Continue past the monastery, and follow the signs for Moussala. Drive about 10 kilometers further, and you will find a parking area near the Borovets ski resort. From the parking area, hike approximately 1.5 kilometers to the start of Мусаленска пътека.

  • Public Transportation

    If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from Sofia or Plovdiv to the town of Samokov. The bus journey from Sofia takes about 1.5 hours and costs approximately 10 BGN. Once in Samokov, you can catch a local bus or taxi to Borovets, which is around a 15-minute ride. The local bus runs regularly and costs about 3 BGN. After reaching Borovets, you will need to walk about 1.5 kilometers to the Мусаленска пътека trailhead.
