Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving from Rila, head southwest on the main road towards Samokov. Continue on this road for about 15 kilometers until you reach the town of Samokov. Once in Samokov, follow signs for Borovets, a popular ski resort. After approximately 10 kilometers, you will arrive at Borovets. Park your car in one of the designated parking areas. From Borovets, you will need to take a gondola lift to reach the higher altitudes, which is approximately 18 BGN (Bulgarian Lev) for a round trip.

    To reach Malka Musala Peak using public transport, start at the bus station in Rila. Take a bus to Samokov; the journey usually takes around 30 minutes. Upon arrival in Samokov, transfer to a bus heading to Borovets. This leg of the journey takes about 20 minutes. Once you reach Borovets, you can take the gondola lift to the higher elevations, which costs around 18 BGN for a round trip. After disembarking from the gondola, follow the marked hiking trails towards Malka Musala Peak.
