Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest major city, Blagoevgrad. From Blagoevgrad, take the E-79 highway towards Dupnitsa. After approximately 40 km, take the exit for Rila Monastery (signs will indicate the monastery). Follow the signs for about 10 km until you reach the monastery. Parking is available near the entrance, but note that there may be a small parking fee.
Public Transportation
If you're using public transport, take a bus from Sofia to Rila Monastery. Buses leave from the Central Bus Station in Sofia. The journey takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. Once you arrive at the Rila Monastery bus stop, it's a short 10-minute walk to the monastery itself. Be sure to check the bus schedule ahead of time for return trips, as they may not be very frequent.
Taxi
For a more convenient option, consider taking a taxi from nearby towns such as Rila or Dupnitsa directly to the monastery. This can be arranged via local taxi services. The cost will vary, but expect to pay around 30 to 50 BGN for a one-way trip. Ensure to agree on the fare before starting your journey.

For the adventurous traveler, consider hiking to Rila Monastery from nearby trails. One popular route starts from the town of Rila, which is approximately 8 km from the monastery and offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
