If you are driving, head towards the town of Gabrovo, which is a central point in Stara Planina. From Gabrovo, take the road towards the village of Tryavna. Continue on this road for about 20 kilometers until you reach a fork in the road. Take the left fork towards the village of Bozhentsi. After passing through Bozhentsi, follow the signs to Khadzhi Dimitur. The drive will take approximately 40 minutes from Gabrovo, and you will need to navigate through scenic mountainous roads. Be aware that some local roads might require a small fee for maintenance, typically around 5 BGN (Bulgarian Lev).
Public Transportation
To reach Khadzhi Dimitur using public transportation, start by taking a bus from the central bus station in Gabrovo to Tryavna. Buses run frequently, approximately every 30 minutes, and the fare is about 5 BGN. Once you arrive in Tryavna, you will need to take a taxi to Khadzhi Dimitur, as public transport options from Tryavna directly to the mountain peak are limited. The taxi ride should cost around 30-40 BGN and will take about 15-20 minutes. It is advisable to negotiate the fare with the taxi driver before starting your journey.
Hiking
For the adventurous, you can also reach Khadzhi Dimitur by hiking from nearby villages. Start your hike from the village of Bozhentsi, which is a popular starting point. The hike to Khadzhi Dimitur is approximately 8 kilometers and can take around 2-3 hours depending on your fitness level. The trail is well-marked, but it is recommended to use a map or a GPS device.
