    Discover more about Ahtopol Lighthouse

The Ahtopol Lighthouse stands as a proud sentinel, marking the entrance to the harbor of Ahtopol, Bulgaria's southernmost city on the Black Sea coast. Since its deployment on July 25, 1932, the lighthouse has been a vital navigational aid and a captivating landmark. Its location on a rocky reef, once difficult to access, adds to its charm and makes it one of the most photographed lighthouses in Bulgaria. The lighthouse's structure comprises a square base of about 3.5 meters, topped by a round stone tower nearly 5 meters high. A reinforced concrete structure supports an iron prism, bringing the total height to around 10 meters. The light, visible for over 8 kilometers, has guided countless ships safely into the harbor. Ahtopol itself is an ancient city with a rich history, dating back to Thracian settlements and later colonized by the Greeks around the 6th century BC. Known as Agatopolis, meaning 'good city', Ahtopol has been influenced by Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans. The city was rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1918, leaving the Church of the Ascension of the Lord as one of the few surviving structures. Today, Ahtopol is a peaceful seaside town, attracting tourists with its beaches, restaurants, and proximity to the Strandzha Nature Park. The Ahtopol Lighthouse not only serves as a navigational aid but also as a symbol of the town's resilience and enduring connection to the sea. Its picturesque setting and historical significance make it a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
