Thracian Tomb Ostrusha: A Glimpse into Ancient Rituals

Nestled in Bulgaria's Rose Valley near Kazanluk, the Thracian Tomb Ostrusha is a remarkable testament to the ancient Thracian civilization. Dating back to the mid-4th century BCE, this tomb offers a captivating glimpse into the lives and customs of the Thracian people. Discovered in 1993, the Ostrusha Tomb stands as one of the most impressive complexes in the Valley of the Thracian Kings.This cult complex spans 100 square meters and comprises six chambers, including five rectangular and one circular chamber. Although many frescoes have been damaged, the serene face of a woman on one of the ceiling panels hints at the tomb's past splendor.Archaeologists have unearthed significant artifacts within the mound, including a horse skeleton, weaponry, silver pitcher, decorative silver appliqués for horse gear, a ceremonial phiale, coins, and ceramic vessels. The tomb's design and the artifacts found within suggest it served as a sanctuary dedicated to the Thracian god of immortality, Sabazios.
