In 1940, when Southern Dobrudzha was returned to Bulgaria, the gallery's exhibits were shipped to Romania, briefly halting its operations. However, the local community rallied to rebuild the cultural institution, and in 1965, the gallery reopened in the building that now houses the Balchik History Museum. In 1987, the gallery moved to its current location, a beautifully renovated former high school in the town center. Today, the Art Gallery Balchik hosts a variety of events, including festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and literary evenings. The gallery also features a permanent exhibition of Bulgarian art from the first and second halves of the 20th century, with a focus on sea landscapes, portraits, and still lifes.
