Discover more about Monastery Saints Constantine and Helena

The Monastery of Saints Constantine and Helena, located in the heart of the seaside resort of the same name, offers a serene escape steeped in history and legend. The monastery's origins trace back to the 16th century, with tales recounting how hermit monks established the site after discovering a miraculous icon of Saints Constantine and Helena following a shipwreck. This icon, believed to possess wonder-working powers, inspired the construction of a place of worship, which eventually became the monastery. Destroyed during the Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829, the monastery was later restored through the efforts of two brothers from Turnovo, the hieromonks Theodosius and Agapius Kantardzhiev, and local volunteers. These dedicated individuals transformed the surrounding wilderness into fertile land, which they then donated to the monastery. The monastery became a hub of life, drawing visitors with its healthy climate, curative mineral springs, and the promise of protection from the patron saints. Today, the Monastery of Saints Constantine and Helena continues to welcome visitors with its tranquil atmosphere and historical significance. The monastery complex comprises a church, a bell tower, and a courtyard, all surrounded by lush greenery. Inside the church, visitors can admire ancient icons and the miraculous spring, known as the ayazmoto, located beneath the altar. The monastery's peaceful ambiance and picturesque setting make it a beloved destination for both Bulgarian and foreign guests.
