Medi Valley Winery, established in 2007, is a modern winery complex located in the village of Smochevo, in the Kyustendil region of Bulgaria. Situated at the southwestern foot of the Rila Mountains, 630 meters above sea level, it lies in the northernmost part of the Struma River Valley. This places it on the picturesque road to the Rila Monastery, a significant cultural and historical site. The winery pays homage to the ancient Thracian tribe of Medi, who inhabited the lands along the Struma River and were known for their advanced viticulture and winemaking traditions. In their honor, the winery adopted the name Medi Valley. The complex features a modern winery and 370 acres of vineyards, cultivating varieties like Chardonnay, Traminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery consists of an administrative building with a wine bar and shop, a production area, and a cellar for aging wines in oak barrels. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings on the panoramic terrace, which offers stunning views of the Rila Mountains. In 2010, Medi Valley launched a new concept focused on creating terroir wines with individual styles and unique characters. The winery has received numerous awards at national and international competitions, establishing itself as a charming destination for wine tourism. Wine lovers can explore the vineyards, learn about the winemaking process, and discover their favorite Bulgarian wines. Located approximately an hour's drive from Sofia, Medi Valley Winery offers a blend of modern winemaking and ancient traditions, making it a worthwhile destination for those exploring the Rila region.
