Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Sofia and head towards Vitosha Mountain. Follow the signs to 'Vitosha Nature Park.' Once you enter the park, continue on the main road until you reach the parking area near the Aleko ski resort. From the parking lot, you can hike approximately 3 kilometers (about 1.9 miles) to the Monument to the Assen Dynasty. The trail is well marked, and you will enjoy scenic views along the way. There may be parking fees that range from 5 to 10 BGN, depending on the duration of your stay.

• Public Transportation

  To reach the Monument to the Assen Dynasty using public transportation, take the Metro to the 'Vitosha' station. From there, catch bus 66, which goes directly to the Aleko ski resort. Once you arrive at the Aleko bus stop, you will need to hike approximately 3 kilometers (about 1.9 miles) on a marked trail to reach the monument. The bus fare is around 1.60 BGN one way. Make sure to check the bus schedule for return trips.

• Hiking

  If you are already in the vicinity of Vitosha Mountain, you can hike to the Monument to the Assen Dynasty directly from various starting points, such as the Aleko ski resort or the Dragalevtsi Monastery. The trail from Aleko is approximately 3 kilometers (about 1.9 miles) and is well marked. If you start from the Dragalevtsi Monastery, the hike is longer, about 6 kilometers (approximately 3.7 miles). Ensure you have adequate supplies such as water and snacks for the hike, and wear appropriate footwear.
