Getting There

Car

From Kigwena National Reserve, take the main road heading south towards the town of Buyengero. Continue on this road for approximately 15 kilometers until you reach the junction with the Bujumbura-Makamba road. Turn left onto the Bujumbura-Makamba road and follow this road for about 45 kilometers. Once you reach the town of Rumonge, continue on the same road until you arrive at the shores of Lake Tanganyika. At this point, you will need to find a boat service to take you across the lake to Mwamgongo, the nearest point to Gombe National Park. The boat ride typically costs around $10 to $15 per person and takes about 30-45 minutes.

From Kigwena National Reserve, you can take a local bus or shared taxi to Rumonge. Buses usually depart from local stations and will cost around 2,000 BIF (Burundian Francs) for the ride to Rumonge. Once in Rumonge, you will need to find a boat service to Mwamgongo to access Gombe National Park. The boat fare is typically between $10 to $15 per person, and it takes about 30-45 minutes to cross Lake Tanganyika to reach Mwamgongo.
