Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Kirundo, head south on Avenue du 1er Novembre towards the intersection with Avenue de la Paix. Continue straight until you reach the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Route nationale 1 (RN1) heading southeast. Walk along RN1 for approximately 1.5 kilometers until you reach a small junction. Turn left onto Route Gakungwe, which is well-marked. After about 1 kilometer, you will pass through the village of Gakungwe. Continue straight for another 500 meters until you see the Livingston-Stanley Monument on your right side.

  • Bicycle

    Starting from the Kirundo market area, head south on Avenue du 1er Novembre, then turn right at the intersection onto Avenue de la Paix. Continue to the roundabout and take the second exit onto RN1. Cycle along RN1 for about 1.5 kilometers. When you reach the junction, turn left onto Route Gakungwe. After cycling for 1 kilometer through Gakungwe, continue straight for another 500 meters until you reach the Livingston-Stanley Monument, which will be on your right.

    From the central bus station in Kirundo, take a local bus heading towards Ramba. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the stop for Gakungwe. The bus ride should take about 20-30 minutes. Once you arrive at Gakungwe, walk approximately 500 meters along the main road (Route Gakungwe) until you see the Livingston-Stanley Monument on your right.
