Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the main town of Vila do Maio. Head east on Avenida 1º de Maio towards Rua de São Vicente. Continue straight for about 2.5 km until you reach a fork in the road. Take the left fork, which will be the EN1-MA01 road. Drive for about 4 km, following the signs towards Pedra Lume. As you approach Pedra Lume, keep an eye out for the Salinas de Pedra de Lume signs. The salt flats are located at Q493+8C3. There is no entrance fee, but you may want to bring water and snacks for your visit.
Public Transportation
For those using public transport, you can take a local 'táxi' (shared taxi) from Vila do Maio to Pedra Lume. The fare is typically around 3-5 euros per person. Make sure to confirm with the driver that they will take you to the Salinas de Pedra de Lume. The journey will take about 20-30 minutes. Once you arrive at Pedra Lume, you will need to walk approximately 1 km to reach the salt flats themselves.
Walking
If you are already in Pedra Lume, simply walk towards the salt flats from any point in the village. Follow the main road south from the center of the village. It's about a 15-minute walk (1 km) to the salt flats. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated!
