History of Praia de Santa Monica

An Ocean-Built Island

Boa Vista is a volcanic island whose visible landscape has been shaped by later erosion, wind and the accumulation of marine sands. The south-western coast around Praia de Santa Monica is consequently low and open rather than mountainous, with dunes and wide beaches facing the Atlantic.
